The Healthy Afternoon Pick-Me-Up. It is no secret that I LOVE coffee! I am not condoning addiction in any way but I do love a good cup of afternoon coffee. Coffee is a rich source of disease-fighting antioxidants. Studies have shown that it may reduce cavities, boost athletic performance, improve moods, and stop headaches, not to mention reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, liver cancer, gallstones, cirrhosis of the liver, and Parkinson’s disease. How’s that for justifying a habit?
Around 3 pm, every single day, I start to fade and feel the day weighing down on me. A weariness takes over. Sometimes, a little rest and a big glass of water does the trick! Sometimes I need something a little stronger…
While coffee has many health benefits so does the act of slowing down, when we intentionally build in times of rest into our daily routines, our lives become more fulfilling. When we take breaks from our day’s work, we can connect with those we love, refocus, and create a tranquility injection. Append reading Scripture or a Bible devotion for another kind of afternoon pick-me-up!
I want to share a little treat I make for myself when I need a boost. It is easy to make and very inexpensive and has a secret ingredient!
