Do any of you celebrate Advent?  Advent is a great way to slow down and enjoy the presence of Christ.  Here is a charming DIY Advent Tree Calendar that your kids or grandchildren will love!

We have always had an Advent Calendar of some sort over the years.  I think the main attraction for the kids was the candy they received every day in December.  Last year the small Advent Christmas Tree we had used for at least five years came to an untimely end.  I was forced to start looking around for another idea this year.

When in doubt check Pinterest out, that is my solution to almost any household problem.  I found an absolutely adorable Advent Tree by the talented folks at Shanty 2 Chic.  Of course, I adapted it to use what I had on hand. This is a VERY EASY project!  It took a total of 2 hours to complete, so basically you can start and finish this during your child’s nap time.  I didn’t have the paper punch it required but I made my own tags for the bags. I cut each number tag out using paper scissors to leave a black rim around each one.

In very little time my daughter and I created something beautiful that will last the test of time!  Plus we had so much fun making this together that we made a memory too!  Time well spent as far as I am concerned!

Inside each bag, we put candy as well as our daily Christmas Prophesy Scriptures.  Each daily Scripture has an Old Testament Prophesy about Jesus and the New Testament fulfillment.  It is a wonderful way to draw children of all ages closer to Him this season.  Each scripture teaches the truth of both the Old and New Testament and shows how the Bible is a complete book, the New Testament teachings of Christ fulfilling the Old Testament teachings.

I pray you and your family will make many wonderful memories this Christmas Season!

  1. I love this! I do not think we will have time to make anything this year (with a 1 year old it is hard) but my 8 year old son made an advent calendar at Sunday school. Everyday it has something to pray for. I love it.
I will have to check out those scriptures though. We are working on focusing more on “Christ” and less on “Santa “.
    Thank you !
