I love SIMPLE and I love FLOWERS! Today, I present, 10 Simple Flower Arranging Tips!
Flower arranging is not hard and I am so pleased to share with you these helpful Simple Flower Arranging Tips. Anything I do at my home has to be easy and simple or it doesn’t happen. With Easter fast approaching, we homemakers are facing a lot of work preparing good food and preparing our homes for this most sacred of holidays. It’s nice to know that with a few tips, you can have a beautiful table and home with minimal effort and expense.
10 Simple Flower Arranging Tips
- Don’t just use flowers…add some greenery. Shop your backyard for branches for green plants.
- Pick the right container. Be creative, your flower receptacle doesn’t have to be an actual vase. I like to use an aluminum bucket, teacups, and flower pots.
- Use large containers for tall flowers and small containers for flowers with short stems.
- Use proper cut flower care before you arrange the flowers.
- Use a flower frog. Do you know what that is? It is a glass or ceramic disc that has holes in it that you place in a vase to help with flower arranging. Don’t have a frog? Use a crumpled-up chicken wire.
- For flower arrangements for the table make sure that you can see them. Round globe vases are great for this. I also like a long and narrow wooden container to make into a table planter.
- Arrange small flower pots down the center of your table to form a simple and beautiful flower arrangement.
- If you are using Lilly’s take the stamens out of the flower before arranging (they leave a mess of pollen everywhere) and don’t use on the table you will eat at. They have such a strong smell they will overpower you. Some other flowers that smell strong are lilacs, gardenias, and freesia. These make lovely household bouquets just not on the table that you will be having a meal on.
- If you are using floral foam, make sure to cut the foam to size and soak it in water before you start your arrangement.
- Always start with the tallest flowers or greenery first then work down in size.

Blessings,
Thanks for sharing on Let’s Get Real Friday Link Party. Love your tip about taking the stamin out of the lilies. so many people can be allergic to their strong smells. Will be sharing this post.
I learned that tip from plenty of messes over the years 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
We’re a group of volunteers and opening a new flower store in our community. Your website provided us with valuable info to work on. You have done a great job!
Thank you and sending blessings your way!
Enjoyed the post.
I’m glad you found it helpful! I hope you stop by again!
I went to floral school to learn the rules even though I have been making wreaths and arrangements for nearly 60 years. What I don’t see on videos and blogs is the “hide your mechanics” rule. You cover your foam with moss. I have asthma and can’t stand the smell of moss, so I use excelsor.
Thank you so much for the tip MG! I appreciate you!
Hydrogen peroxide is helpful when added to hydrangeas in a vase helps them last longer a d keeps mold and iky stuff from growing in the vase, you can always try cutting the hydrangeas at a slant and dipping the stems in alum (the spice u use to make pickles!) It causes a puckering action in the stem so to speak, and allows major water absorbing thru the stem and flower! When using them outside in weddings or dinners literally “dunk” the whole stem and flower in water efore arranging they are one of the few flowers that take water thru flowerbuds stems and leaves!! Hope this helps!
Oh, this is so good to know! Thank you so much for sharing this Shannon!
