I have been failing for some time now to come up with a copycat recipe for Paleo Bush’s Baked Beans. I know some you may be wondering why it is so important to come up with a Paleo recipe for Bush’s Baked beans? Well, when my children were little my Dad whom they called Pop would make the Bush’s Baked Beans for lunch except that he didn’t call them that. He called them Pop’s Baked Beans. Hence, the determination to create a gluten-free, paleo recipe that everyone could have.
It pains me to say that my family has had to eat many, many failed batches over the last few years! Yesterday was Memorial Day and we were having a family picnic so in my Dad’s honor I decided to give it a go again. After at least 3 years of trying I believe, I GOT IT! *The key is to start soaking your beans two days ahead or just use canned beans!* One other tip is to use the kind of beans your body digests best.
I am so excited to present to you this allergy-friendly option for Bush’s Baked Beans!

Oooh, these sound wonderful. Will be pinning and trying them some time. Thanks for sharing at Let’s Get Real.
I hope you will enjoy this Karen and thanks for pinning!
I feel dumb asking but does your recipe call for 8 cups of dry beans or eight cups of cooked beans? I made 8 cups of cooked beans but then was wondering if I made a mistake. Thank you!
No question is dumb Sarah…it is 8 cups of cooked beans. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will like these beans as much as we do!
Not a bad recipe if I may say so. It is a little sweet for my particular taste but still very good
Hi Dale, Thanks for your comment! You can always adjust the amount of sweetener to accommodate your taste.
Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed surfing around your blog posts!
I’m so glad you made your way to The Peaceful Haven!
Hi, Janelle! I’ve been making these beans for several years now and they are my go to! Love them!! I see the page was updated in March this year. By chance, did any ingredient quantities change? I was just thinking to myself that I need to write this down bc I would be devastated if this page ever expired!! Planning on making my next batch at the end of the week. Making sure I have all my ingredients now. 😁 Thx!
Hi Brooke, I am so glad you like my bean recipe! Nothing has changed in the recipe! So glad you are here at The Peaceful Haven!
Came across this recipe and have made it twice. Absolutely delicious! Thank you.
Thank you so much for letting me know, Katie! We love it too!
What can I use instead of molasses, or can I omit? I don’t tolerate molasses due to the refined sugar. I just bought some sprouted beans since I don’t tolerate non-sprouted, and I miss baked beans!
You could substitute more maple syrup…
I spent too much time in the bean aisle reading the ingredient lists for baked beans only to be continuously disappointed. I bought some canned red beans (they didn’t have navy) hoping I would be able to find a healthier recipe, and thankfully I found this one!
I’m so glad you found The Peaceful Haven!
Hi! Is the bacon cooked before going in? If yes,
does any of the bacon grease go in? Thanks!
Hi Liz,
I do not cook the bacon first. Hope this helps!
