It wasn’t until the last moment that I was able to come up with this list. It seemed like every, single book I read this month had some considerable concerns and would not be “List Worthy”. I began to worry if there would be any books worth putting on Simple Short Christian Book Reviews. Then alas, last week, I stumbled upon some rather good books which I am excited to share with you!
Simple Short Christian Book Reviews
FICTION
I finished this book last night. Come Rain or Come Shine (A Mitford Novel)and it may be my favorite novel in the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. I could not put it down. This book made me laugh and cry and well…I just loved it! If you have never read the Mitford series then I suggest you get reading. Mitford is a fictional town in North Carolina and the main character in the series is a 60ish Episcopal priest named Father Tim. The other members of the town will become your friends and you will laugh your way through the entire series. This series elevates small-town living and increases your faith at the same time. Time well spent! I dare you not to love it!

HOMEMAKING
Southern Living The Half-Hour Hostess: All Fun, No Fuss: Easy Menus, 30-Minute Recipes, and Great Party Ideas will make your life easier. Hospitality to others is a biblical command. What prevents most of us from doing it is that it takes time and energy. This book will help you out and turn hospitality to others into a “no-brainer”.

SPIRITUAL
God’s High Calling for Women encouraged me like no other book I have read in my role of wife and mother. In this world of feminism gone awry, there is not a day that goes by that we as women don’t have to fight for the vision God has laid out in His word for us. I have to be honest, I get weary of fighting the battle. This book is short and to the point. Gives background into the culture in which the key passages for women were written. Women will have understanding and this book makes you feel like a treasure! Take a day to read it and I promise it will give you the boost you need to keep up the fight!
INTERIOR DESIGN
The Welcoming House: The Art of Living Graciously is a lovely book to relax with a cup of coffee and look at all the gracious pictures. The images alone will inspire you with ideas of how to make your home more welcoming. What interested me was the text though. Well written and thought out. The Welcoming House is a tutorial in thinking of others as more important than yourself. That is what really made this book stand out and got it in the Christian Book Reviews this month

HOMESCHOOL
Home Learning Year by Year: How to Design a Homeschool Curriculum from Preschool Through High School is actually a book that has been around for quite a few years. I found it to be very helpful even as a 22-year homeschool veteran. Home Learning Year by Year is a tutorial about how to formulate an effective and budget-friendly curriculum for your children. Innovative and thorough, this book will save you money in the long run.

CHILDREN
The Family Under the Bridge is a family favorite. It is a heartwarming family read-a-loud that can be read in one sitting. It is also a good read for the early grades. Esker family approved and highly recommended!
ven children experience lonely moments. Our family loves all of Max Lucado’s children’s books and this special book reminds us that parents are important and will always be there, and God is right there too. Faith-building and reassuring you will want to add this book to your library at home!
HEALTH
American Medical Association Family Medical Guide is a wonderful resource to have on hand. I will help you evaluate your children’s health and help you decide when and if they need to go to the doctor. This Family Medical Guide is a must-have for parents. *Caution…there are drawings of the human body in this book.

I’m very happy to read this. So many great books on this list!
I’m so glad you liked them, Nina. Thanks for stopping by The Peaceful Haven!
I have a beautiful Christian novel to recommend to you. Ribbon of Years, by Robin Lee Hatcher. Although most of Ms. Hatcher’s works are Christian romance, this one really isn’t. Yes, the main character falls in love and gets married, but the book chronicles 65 years of her life—from rebellious 15-year old, to content 80-year old. I think this is the most beautiful novel I have ever read. It is inspiring, heart-tugging, God-honoring, faith-filled. A 5-star read for sure.
Thank you so much, Patti for this book recommendation! I have not read it and it sounds absolutely lovely! I,m off to amazon and thrift books to see if I can find it! 🙂
