When we make space in our lives to pause and think about all that God has done for us, it is natural to want to serve!  He loves us so much that He calls us his children and friends.  Isn’t this truth absolutely amazing?  Serving God does not have to be hard.  We may often be guilty as wives and mothers, of thinking that serving must be big, overtly spiritual, and costly.   There is no truth in this idea.  Here are 7 Easy Ways To Serve God Today!

However, all our opportunities to serve are worth nothing if done without love and not empowered by the Holy Spirit.  We must be careful to understand and know the source of our ability.  If we proceed in our own strength, our pursuit leads to feeling overwhelmed, drudergy, and legalism.  Serving out of the love deposited in us by the Holy Spirit is freeing not constricting.

7 Easy Ways To Serve God Today

  1. Say; “thank you” to someone.
  2. Smile and make eye contact with another person.
  3. When you are at the store pick up one extra can or box of food and donate it to your church’s food pantry.
  4. Pause and think about one thing you genuinely like about a family member and tell them.
  5. Stop before you talk with a person and behold them.  Understand that they were created by God and made in His image.  Ask Jesus to help you see them as He sees them.
  6. Be gentle and honest with yourself and others.
  7. Save clothes you no longer wear and give them to an organization that works with orphans, widows, and the poor.

A word of advice from a mom of six and a full-time homemaker for the past 35 years.  I have found it helpful to eliminate one word from my vocabulary.  The word “should”.  If you find yourself thinking about how you really “should” do something, pause and think about why you feel that way because that is never a good enough reason to say, Yes. Please don’t commit to serving without praying about it.  Give yourself the gift of time spent with God, reading your Bible.  If you listen, Jesus will direct your paths.

The biblical woman has different seasons of her life.  Her service is distinct at the various stages.  A young wife and mother will not serve the way a grandmother or single woman does.  Yes, we do have individual gifts and talents however, most of the years of a woman’s life are in service of her family, right in her very own home.  For a woman, it is from her own home that she can realize Matthew 25:35-40.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink,

I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me,

I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these

brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Matthew 25:35-40
