My husband and I just finished watching Chariots of Fire yet again. Yes, it’s one of our all-time favorites! Why? The story of Christian missionary and Olympian Eric Liddle is inspiring. What we need today is more role models. Do the Eric Liddles of the world even exist anymore? We are desperate for heroes of the faith who will encourage us to follow wholeheartedly after Jesus Christ in every area of our lives. Here are 5 Must-See Christian True Story Movies that are tremendous!
The following movies are for High School-aged children or mature Middle Schoolers. They all depict mature themes and that is why they are so powerful. Each of these faith-building movies makes great family discussions.
5 Must See Christian True Story Movies
The Firing Squad
In response to the question, “Are there any role models today?” Yes, there are and this wonderful Christian movie is about several! It is based on a TRUE STORY that happened just a few years ago (2015). “They faced death. And chose life.” This movie will be in theaters in August. I was privileged to be invited to preview this movie with my family. We all loved it and one daughter in particular was moved to tears and has been talking of little else since. Whether you watch this movie or not, will you pray for 100,000 souls to come to salvation in Jesus Christ as a result of viewing The Firing Squad? Find out more about this inspiring film, HERE!
Jesus Revolution
My pastor and his wonderful wife met in High School in the state of California and were part of the Jesus Revolution in real-time. The people I know who were actually a part of the movement say that it is 100% honest and accurate! Jesus Revolution is a family movie that accurately depicts a move of the Spirit that many youth or adults may not realize still happens today!
Amazing Grace
An older excellently produced movie about the profound real-life story of William Wilberforce and the slave trade in Great Britain. Amazing Grace spans generations and depicts one faithful man’s journey to abolish the slave trade. Many men and women gave up over time but not William Wilberforce. He will inspire you toward faithfulness and patience.
Bonhoeffer Agent of Grace
I recommend reading the book (for Middle School) first. The movie, Bonhoeffer Agent of Grace, set in World War II, will bring the books to life and allow for varied and vibrant discussions.
Chariots of Fire
Oh, this movie is a classic! Have you seen it? If not please do. Pays tribute to human courage by recounting the story of the two British runners who competed in the 1924 Olympics as a personal protest against anti-Semitism and to glorify God. The heroic Eric Liddle of the China Inland Mission is depicted accurately and beautifully! Chariots of Fire is most definitely a movie you don’t want to miss!
