5 Ways To Cozy Your Home This Fall
It is happening! I smell Autumn in the air, the leaves are beginning to turn and I am getting ready to cozy my home for the Fall season. The crisp Fall days and turning leaves seem to be a perfect backdrop for hominess and family comfort.
I use the five senses when decorating my home, no matter what time of year. It seems to be my “go-to” when evaluating the needs of a room or home. How does the room smell? (This one always gets me. With 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 6 kids, I am sure you can imagine how disgusting my home can smell!) What are the textures like? Is every piece of furniture comfortable and visually beautiful?
Take a moment and evaluate your home, how can you cozy your home up this Fall?
5 Ways To Cozy Your Home This Fall
TOUCH
Add cozy throw blankets to the places your family gathers to spend time together, I have a collection of soft cream-colored blankets that I keep handy for snuggling at any time of the year. In the Autumn season, I like to add some tartan throws in earth tones. I have them spread around the house and on the front porch. Can you say cozy?
SMELL
I employ three ways to make my home smell cozy. Firstly, I use an essential oil diffuser with essential oils like cinnamon, clove, and Onguard. I like to use wet potpourri by keeping a small cast iron pot on the stove filled with water, orange peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and nutmeg. Lastly, I keep healthy-scented soy candles on hand to light in heavenly scents of cookie dough, apple pie, and pumpkin spice! Candles = COZY!
SEE
Add natural elements like dried wheat, sticks, pinecones, acorns, pumpkins, gourds, and asters to make any room visually stunning! Take a nature walk with your family to collect natural elements to decorate your home with ZERO cost and you will be making memories with your kids simultaneously. Next, work together to add Fall elements to your home. Try this decorative acorn ball craft to add Autumn beauty and texture!
AUDITORY
We often skip this one but by intentionally adding music or quiet to your day you will be able to bring peace or excitement to your Fall activities. I am a big fan of classical music but you may be a fan of Country music. Let your preferences be reflected in your home!
TASTE
Food has the power to transform any day and eating together as a family keeps family bonds strong. Therefore, keep pumpkin bread or muffins in the freezer to bring out for snacks, and don’t forget the apple cider! How about some pumpkin scones or apple pie? Why not have a picnic with your family or break out these Autumn treats for after-school snacks?
