Epsom Salts are great for a hot bath after a long day!  I like to add some essential oils like lavender and bergamot…now that spells rest for me.  Epsom salts are organic and are loaded with magnesium, which is an essential mineral for your body and as it happens it is also great for your garden too!   Today, I am going to show you 5 Ways To Feed Your Garden With Epsom Salts.

Epsom Salts are a “must-have” for the garden.  They are inexpensive to purchase and that is a BIG bonus for me.  I purchased mine in a large jug at my local drugstore.  I keep some in the bathroom for me and some in the garage for the garden.

My favorite reason to use Epsom Salts in the garden is to increase the number of flowers I get on each of my plants. However, Epsom Salts also help seeds germinate, improve the phosphorus and nitrogen in plants, make plants bushier, and even increase chlorophyll production!

Another reason that I love to use Epsom Salts in my garden is that, unlike commercial fertilizers that remain in the soil and work overtime, Epsom Salts can’t be overused.  I don’t like to overthink things and that fact alone makes Epsom Salts EASY to use!

Feed Your Garden With Epsom Salts

  1. Add 4 cups of Epsom Salts into 4 gallons of warm water.  Stirring until the Epsom Salts have dissolved.  Sprinkle around the roots of plants once a month.
  2. When planting a new rose bush, add 1/2 cup of Epsom Salts to the hole before planting and water in the well.
  3. In your vegetable garden, lightly sprinkle Epsom Salts in the garden bed every two months of the growing season.  It will encourage leaf growth and vegetable production.
  4. In Spring, Sprinkle 1 cup or 2 (depending on the size) around your fruit trees, and you will have more fruit!
  5. Add Epsom Salts to your compost bin.  I add a cup or two yearly, to my bins.

  1. Do you ever save your foot bath water for the garden? Would lavender oil hurt the plants (I add lavender oil with the epsom salt to my foot bath water)?

  2. That is a great idea, Barbara!! Lavender oil won’t hurt plants so you are good to go. Lavender essential oil is especially good for fruit and berry trees.

  3. Thank you for some other excellent post. Where else could anyone get that type of info in such a perfect way of writing? Epsom Salts, who knew?
