Let me start with the facts.  I have lots of laundry.  As a mom of six with five cats and a dog, I spend a good part of every day doing laundry.  It’s not like I don’t like laundry, I find hanging my clothes on the line outside relaxing. However, I do find my laundry situation time-consuming, to say the least.   Never fear, I have come up with a solution…Pray Your Laundry Away!

Firstly, I abhor multitasking.  I never could do it. Multitasking reduces cognitive functioning and impairs one’s ability to perform a task. Basically, it does not work.  There is one exception.  If the task you are working on has become an automatic function.  For me, this includes doing laundry and weeding.

This frees me to pray while I do my laundry and other household chores that have become automatic for me. I am thankful when I can intentionally sprinkle times of prayer throughout my day.  There is a joy that comes from walking through my day with Jesus.

Pray Your Laundry Away

  1. As you sort your laundry, pray for the family members whose clothes they are.
  2. Look through your laundry piles for stained clothes, and pray for your children’s safety in the activities they are involved in.
  3. Do your husband’s laundry and thank God for his job and how it provides for your family.
  4. Pause between loads of laundry to praise God for blessing you with a family.
  5. Worried about a particular situation in your family?  Use this time to ask God for what you need.

It is amazing how fast the laundry goes away when you combine prayer with this necessary homemaking task.  For the record, it is perfectly fine to stay in the laundry room (or basement in my case) for an extended time of prayer.  Jesus is in the business of listening to and answering our heartfelt prayers.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is

the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
