I have been married for 36 years and it was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made. Not because it has been easy but because being married has grown my faith and made me into Jesus’s likeness. I’m excited to share 5 Christian marriage relationship goals based on biblical principles!
Looking back, I must confess that having marriage goals was never something my husband and I discussed when we were first married. Honestly, I’m not even really sure we discussed it the first ten years of our marriage. We were so busy having children and dealing with life that the thought never occurred to us. I’m so glad the idea finally dawned on us and we sat down to write our marriage goals.
The following goals reflect a Christ-centered approach to building a strong and lasting marriage.
5 Christian Marriage Relationship Goals
- Grow Together in Faith – Prioritize shared spiritual growth through prayer, Bible study, and worship, aligning your marriage with God’s purpose (Ephesians 5:25-27).
- Practice Selfless Love – Emulate Christ’s sacrificial love by putting your spouse’s needs above your own, fostering mutual respect and care (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
- Maintain Open Communication – Build trust through honest, kind, and patient dialogue, resolving conflicts with grace and forgiveness (Colossians 3:13).
- Serve Each Other – Cultivate a heart of service, supporting each other’s goals and sharing responsibilities to strengthen your partnership (Galatians 5:13).
- Honor Your Covenant – Stay committed to your vows, seeking God’s guidance to remain faithful and resilient through challenges (Malachi 2:16).
This may come as a shock to you, but God’s primary purposes for marriage are companionship, procreation, and redemption. I know, this is completely contrary to our modern culture. However, who are you going to trust? The Bible or the ever-changing culture? Marriage provides the foundation for the family and reflects God’s covenant relationship with His people. Marriage is both a sacred and a lawful union.
YOUR TURN…
What are your marriage relationship goals?
Peacefully Yours,
Janelle
