Christ Centered Saint Patrick’s Day Books For Kids

Being Irish, a Christian and a redhead, I feel strongly connected to my Irish heritage.  I also agree that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!  So much fun is associated with this special holiday.  I have always considered St. Patrick’s Day a Christian holiday, here is the newest edition of The Peaceful Haven’s holiday faith series, Christ-Centered Saint Patrick’s Day Books For Kids!

You may or may not know that St. Patrick was a 5th-century missionary, and brought the Christian faith to Ireland. He is the patron saint of the country.   Patrick was born in England to Christian parents, as a teen he was captured by the Irish and enslaved.

Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie DePaola is a classic!  I have had this one on my bookshelf pre-children as a teacher.  As a homeschool mom of six, this Christ-centered book is dog-eared and much loved!

The Story of Saint Patrick by Christopher Fay      Open the pages of this enchanting book and learn about the man who lives in the hearts of all the Irish. Did you know that Patrick was a Roman citizen? Or that he was captured by the Celts and made a slave for six years? Or that he managed to escape from being a slave and later became a priest and a bishop? Did you know that he returned to Ireland because of a dream?

 

St. Patrick’s Day in the Morning by Eve Bunting has beautiful illustrations about a young boy’s quest to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  A classic and utterly charming! 

The Wolf and the Shield: An Adventure with Saint Patrick by Sherry Smith   This book is special…Kieran is braver and stronger than most eleven-year-old boys. And ever since his father’s death, he’s been doing his best to take care of his mother and little brother. In fifth-century Ireland, though, there aren’t many options. When Kieran rescues a wolf pup and meets Saint Patrick, his choices become even more difficult.
