I was recently having coffee with a friend and we got to talking about British Shows and how much we enjoyed them.  We commented on how visually stunning the cinematography was and that most of the productions were historically accurate to boot!  We did however wonder why some books were changed to reflect the values of our present culture instead of what was originally written in the books. That caused us to wonder, what are the Best Wholesome British Period Dramas?

I began to research and here is the list of our family’s favorite British Period Dramas. Most of the titles are appropriate for Middle School and up.  But honestly, most of these films were viewed by my children in their elementary years too.  This is for you Gloria, and for all the other lovers of thought-provoking content!

Disclaimer:  Wholesome is a broad term that means many things to different people.  If you are at all concerned about this selection preview the movies first to make sure that they go along with your definition of wholesome viewing.

Parents, viewing movies with your children is fun! I would also suggest having an educational element too.  Just don’t let your kids in on that little secret.  Movies can be a great opportunity for good discussions with your young adults about historical events, customs, culture, personal opinions, etc.  It is a worthwhile endeavor to make time for this!  If the movie is originally from a book, why not read it together first and then watch the movie. That is another way to engage in conversation within your family.
