You may wonder what a post about 25 Character Traits Of A Godly Man is doing on a homemaking blog for women.

When I was studying for my post on the 22 Character Traits Of A Godly Woman, I decided to do the same for men.  Why?  Because I want to pray that these godly character traits would be accomplished in my husband and son’s lives.   I have to say, I am so happy I took the time to research the Bible!  I wish I would have done it sooner…

As you have heard me say before, it is important to know the end goal and work towards it.  Making good choices for each of our children based on the Word of God.   This list of traits can help us as parents make good choices for our sons.  For our older sons, it can help them make their own good choices.  Ask themselves, does this activity, school choice, movie, etc. help me in growing more like Christ?

I want to caution you that godliness is a work of God in our lives.  It is not a list to be checked off or obtained by human might.  Only Jesus can accomplish these traits.

These 25 Character Traits of a Godly Man are taken from the books of 1 Timothy Chapter 3 and from the book of Titus, Chapters 1-3.

25 Character Traits of a Godly Man

1. He is above reproach.

2. Husband of one wife.

3. Sober-minded.

4. He is disciplined and self-controlled.

5. Respectable.

6. Hospitable.

7. He is able to teach sound doctrine.

8. He is not a drunkard.

9. He is gentle.

10. Not quarrelsome and avoids arguing.

11. He is not greedy or a lover of money.

12. He manages his home well.

13. Has submissive children that are believers.

14. He is dignified.

15. Holds firm to God’s Word.

16. Not double-tongued and has sound speech.

17. Lives a peaceful and quiet life.

18. He is growing in godliness.

19. He loves good.

20. Obedient and not insubordinate.

21. He is a man of integrity.

22. He participates in good works.

23. Able to rebuke those who contradict God’s Word.

24. Shows perfect courtesy toward all people.

25. Holy because of his relationship with Christ.

Print this list off and start praying for your husband, sons, and even your future son-in-law today!  Remember, we are not after a perfect man, but a man who is open to the things of God.  We know that anything any man does that is good is a result of Jesus working in his life.  Becoming a godly man is a lifelong process.  Process and patience are the keys.
