Well, it’s no secret around The Peaceful Haven, that I love the Fixer-Upper Style! Since I live in a Fixer Upper, 1903 Farmhouse, Joanna Gain’s designs fit well into my home. I have been wanting a Magnolia Wreath for some time but the price for a Magnolia Wreath is around $100 which is well out of my price range. I am SUPER EXCITED to share with you an easy tutorial for a DIY Homemade Magnolia Wreath!
I have a few hobbies, I enjoy creating, writing, and making beautiful things for the home for next to nothing using what I have on hand. This project was FREE for me and I hope with a little creativity it can be for you as well.
DIY Homemade Magnolia Wreath
SUPPLIES
50 large Magnolia leaves picked fresh from the tree (or purchase HERE)
2 lightweight metal coat hangers or wire wreath frame
floral tape or floral wire
hot glue gun
6 glue sticks
The first step is to preserve your Magnolia Leaves. Find out how HERE! This will take about 24 hours to complete, including the drying time. Make sure to fully submerge the leaves and put a glass measuring cup on top to make sure that the leaves stay submerged.
Once the leaves have dried from preservation in the water. Gather all the supplies from the list above
I tried my best to choose supplies from items around the home. My goal from the very beginning was to make something BEAUTIFUL for FREE!
The base of the wreath is made from 2 coat hangers, stretched into a circle. One circle should be larger than the other. As you can see the circles do not need to be perfect! I just used my hands to stretch the coat hangers out into a basic circle. In the smaller circle, I folded a piece of the hanger back to make it smaller.
Next, take your floral wire or floral tape and wrap it around the two circles made from coat hangers. I first taped the top and bottom together and then the top and bottom of the circles together. Then wrap the whole wreath. If you don’t want to bother with making your wreath base you can order one HERE.
Apply hot glue to the stem and bottom 1/8 of the magnolia leaves.
Start with your largest Magnolia leaves. Insert each Magnolia leaf into the circular wreath base, making sure to angle each leaf. Attach the leaf by the stem gently weaving it into the floral wire. The tip of the step is secured under the smaller wire circular base.
Once you have your first layer of Magnolia leaves securely attached you will add two more inner circles of leaves. This is the easier part. Instead of placing the hot glue on the top of the leaf you will put it on the back of the leaf and secure on top, towards the center of the first circle of leaves. The second circle of leaves uses slightly smaller leaves than the first row.
Finish the last row using the smallest Magnolia leaves. Make sure to cover any parts of the wire base that is still showing. Hang and enjoy!
If you have come to the end of this tutorial and just realized you don’t want to make your own Magnolia wreath. I have another excellent option for you! I just finished reviewing a CHARMING indoor-outdoor Magnolia wreath from Silk Plants Direct. I have had it hanging on my front porch to test the quality and I am pleased to say it has remained in BEAUTIFUL condition with no fading or wear and tear. I am completely satisfied with this wreath!
