My niece just turned one!  Hard to believe she is that age already, I made this DIY Sweet Toddler Sundress for her birthday.

I have to confess I had so much fun making it!  This adorable project was quick and easy and it only took me an hour to make.  If you are looking for a fun way to spend one hour and come away with a practical and charming project then this is for you!

This project is also a thrifty and frugal way to outfit young girls this summer.  Why not include some of the older kids too?  This is a great beginner sewing project!

2. Measure and cut fabric to the appropriate size.

3. Cut the armholes.  The armhole should measure 3 inches x 5 inches.

4. Pin bias tape to the right side of the fabric 3 inches from the bottom.

5. Hem the bottom of the skirt.

6. Sew sides together on the wrong side of the fabric.  Use a 3/4 inch seam allowance.

7. Pin the armhole hem.  This was tricky so take your time and use lots of pins.  The seam allowance is  1/4 inch.  Sewing slowly, hem the armholes.

8. Finish the top edges of the dress with a 1/2 inch seam forming a casing.

9. Sew the remaining bias tape to make a thin ribbon.  Fold the bias tape in half lengthwise and sew.

10.  Attach a safety pin to one end of the bias tape ribbon and work through and out of the top casings.

11. Iron the dress and tie the ribbon!  VOILA!

I had some leftover bias tape so I made a ribbon for my niece’s hair with the extra and used a bobby pin and e6000 to adhere to it!
