Motherhood or parenting at large is about relationships The relationship between a mother and child is the foundation for all other areas of parenting.  For example, you will never be able to effectively discipline your child without a loving relationship at the core. Today, we’re going to talk about safety and security.  Let’s start with this most important question…Do Your Children Feel Secure?

While we are talking about security, we must address what occurs when children don’t feel safe and that is fear.  Helping children through fear is another article. It is important to understand that the two are linked.

All human beings have a deep need to be safe and secure. It is as important as being loved. Ultimately only God can do this.  However, it’s important to imitate God and provide our children with a safe and secure environment, in which to live and grow. Security is a basic human need that we see displayed throughout Scripture.

And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
Ezekial 34:27

And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
Isaiah 32:18

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.
Psalm 16:9

I thought it would be helpful to ask my six adult children what made them feel secure while growing up and what made them feel like we “threw them under the bus”.  Here is what my children said…

Do Your Children Feel Secure?

  • Morning snuggles
  • Helping us know ourselves…the person God created us to be
  • Keeping your word
  • Special times
  • Listening to thoughts, explanations, and problems
  • Setting safe boundaries and explaining why they are important
  • Having a dog to protect our home

All people need a place

where their roots can grow deep

and they always feel like they belong

and have a loving refuge.

Let’s face it, it is hard to parent biblically in a post-Christian culture!  However, God has not left us without guidance.  We must make time in our day, every day to read the Bible and pray.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  I don’t know about you but I am in desperate need of wisdom every single moment.  Check out this Prayer List for Children.

All this begs us to ask What does the Bible say kids need?  Check out the article HERE!
