One of the hardest things for me about going gluten-free is that you have to give up the pastries at Starbucks! Not anymore, here is my tried and true recipe for Gluten Free Starbucks Copycat Pumpkin Scones!  Autumn is filled up to overflowing with all sorts of good things!

I will say this, though, Starbucks has made a real effort to have gluten-free options available.  They have their gluten-free marshmallow dream bar and now a flour-less chewy chocolate cookie! However, the delicious pumpkin scone is NOT gluten-free.

My daughters and I spent the weekend combining about 5 different copycat pumpkin scone recipes to come up with the following gluten-free option for you all. May you enjoy every single bite…

 

 

Gluten-Free Starbucks Copycat Pumpkin Scones

Makes 16

 

4 cups gluten-free flour mix

2/3 cup brown sugar or maple sugar

2 Tsp. cinnamon

1/2 Tsp. salt

1 Tsp. baking soda

2 Tsp. baking powder

1 1/2 Tsp. ground cloves

1 Tsp. ginger

1 cup butter or ghee softened

1 cup pumpkin purée

1/4 cup milk or coconut milk 

2 large eggs

1 Tsp. nutmeg

 

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix on low speed of the mixer until incorporated.

3.  Divide the mixture in half and place each half on a baking stone.

4.  Put a light coating of olive oil on your hands and shape each dough blob into a 2” high circle.

5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

6. Test for doneness with a fork and let sit 15 minutes.

7. Cut each circle into 8 scones.

 

WHITE ICING

1. Combine 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 TBS. water to make a glaze.

2. Drizzle over warm scones and 5 minutes.

 

PUMPKIN SPICE ICING 

It’s time to combine the following ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.

2 cups powdered sugar

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 Tsp. ground cloves

1/2 Tsp. ground ginger

1/2 Tsp.  nutmeg

4 TBS. milk

 

Drizzle over the white icing in stripes.

 

* This recipe makes 16 scones

Once for thanksgiving breakfast, once for my daughter’s birthday party, once for visiting guests, and twice for church refreshments.   3. Wondering what your favorite brand of gf flour is. These are in the oven now. I made them with Bob’s Red Mill flour and the dough seemed to have a strange after taste. I’m not gf, so just wondering and trying something new. Thanks!

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I either use my own g.f. mix or Bob’s Red Mill. If you are not gluten free it is pretty common for it to have an aftertaste. I find that the Bob’s Red Mill One to One Flour has less of an aftertaste than the Bob’s Red Mill G.F. Mix made from bean flours. Thanks for stopping by and I hope this will help!

  7. Is there a reginal difference in what they serve? No Starbucks in any of the places I’ve lived has had gf anything in the pastry case in many years. So now I need to go in and check. Lol

    Best GF recipe for pumpkin scones I have made! I have tried many….not so good recipes.
    I used Bob Red Mill GF 1 to 1 flour & it worked great!

    I baked them as 8 smaller scoops/rounds for 18mins & they were perfect!
