When seeking a healthy lifestyle, it is critical to investigate what God’s Vision Of The Healthy Life is. I don’t know about you but I desire to be free.  To be free to live this life in a way that allows me to receive God’s love.  I want to experience good health in my relationships, in my body, in the way I think and in my emotional health.  I want to be free to interact with God unhindered!

I find that if one area of my life is unhealthy then all the other areas suffer too.  I have also found that only God can redeem an unhealthy area into the life-giving vibrancy of a healthy life.

Psalm 34 is beautifully instructive.  It was written by King David and like all the Psalms David wrote, express his humanity and his constant longing for God.  I love David because he is refreshingly “real” and sometimes totally inappropriate.  I confess to finding comfort from his honesty.

For me, Psalm 34 is a picture of the healthy life God has intended for us.  Take a look for yourselves…

Psalm 34- God’s Vision Of The Healthy Life

34 I will bless the Lord at all times;
    his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
    let the humble hear and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
    and let us exalt his name together!

I sought the Lord, and he answered me
    and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant,
    and their faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
    and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps
    around those who fear him, and delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
    Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
    for those who fear him have no lack!
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger;
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

11 Come, O children, listen to me;
    I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 What man is there who desires life
    and loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil
    and your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Turn away from evil and do good;
    seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous
    and his ears toward their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
    to cut off the memory of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears
    and delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
    and saves the crushed in spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
    but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
20 He keeps all his bones;
    not one of them is broken.
21 Affliction will slay the wicked,
    and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the life of his servants;
    none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

What’s your take away from Psalm 34 on how to achieve a healthy life?

  • Fear the Lord     Respect and obey God’s ways.
  • Pray     God is faithful, He hears and answers prayers.
  • Boast in the Lord     We are unable to do or accomplish anything without God.
  • Radiate     As Christian’s we are to soak in God’s love and radiate that to others.
  • Experience     Taste God’s goodness…taste and experience God’s love through His son Jesus.
  • Goodness     God’s people lack nothing that is good for them.

Don’t you love that God allows us to experience Him through all five senses?  Understanding leads to living these joyous truths. Biblical principles have the power to set you FREE and allow you to experience a healthy life!

I leave you with this challenge.  What area of your life do you have unhealthy practices that are preventing you from experiencing God’s love?  Take a moment and ask God to reveal them to you.

YOUR TURN…

I would love to hear how God is showing His love to you today!

Blessings,
