How To Care For Bed Linen So It Lasts Longer
This is not a post on how to fold bed linen AKA sheets because I still can’t do it properly after almost 30 years of homemaking. Those fitted sheets will be the death of me! No matter how many tutorials I watch my fitted sheets still manage to look like a giant ball.
I can, however, share with you how to care for your bed linens so they last longer.
How To Care For Bed Linen So It Lasts Longer
- Wash sheets alone and not with other items in the laundry, wash them in all natural detergent. I make my own, get my recipe HERE.
- Line dry bed linens of all kind including blankets and comforters. In bright sunshine is best, as it naturally whitens the linens and the hot sun kills any germs or bacteria making it the healthiest and most cost-effective option.
- Use 100% cotton pillow and mattress covers. It will make your mattress and pillows last longer and prevent dust mites from accumulating.
- Soak you bed linens in cold water before washing. Soaking your sheets in water removes stains and hydrates the fibers adding life to your linens. This is especially helpful for vintage linens. You can safely soak soiled items for up to a week.
- Purchase good sheets. Use 100% cotton, linen or hemp which allow your body to breathe at night encouraging good sleep, and feel amazing against your skin!
