How to Find Contentment?  About 15 years ago, I asked a friend to pray and then tell me my blind spots.  I felt like I was stagnating in my faith.  She was gracious to take the time and then tell me what she observed in my life and what she felt God was telling her after prayer.  My blind spot was my lack of contentment.  I was shocked!  I guess that is why they call it a “blind spot”.

This new revelation caused me to open my Bible, break out my journal, and petition God for his wisdom.  I found myself trying to determine the root cause of my lack of contentment and this is what I found.

How to Find Contentment

You can not find true contentment without a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Forgiveness of sins is the foundation for contentment.

LESSON: Forgive yourself!  If Jesus forgives you but you don’t forgive yourself then you can not find contentment.

Our American culture breeds materialism and materialism breeds discontentment.  Why not join me in pursuing Christ-Centered Slow Living?

LESSON: Our things do not belong to us, they belong to God.

The longing for perfection leads to discontentment.  Pursue progress, not perfection.

LESSON: God’s power is made perfect in your weakness.

But godliness with contentment is great gain,

for we brought nothing into the world,

and we cannot take anything out of the world.

But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

1 Timothy 6:6-8

When we compare ourselves to other women or families we invite discontentment into our lives with open arms.

LESSON: God created you for a purpose that only you can carry out with His help.  You are created with your own set of gifts that God has given you so that you can fulfill His purpose for you on this earth.

Thankfulness and discontentment are opposites. Setting a portion of the day to reflect on what you are thankful for seems to wash away all that is disturbing.  Start a prayer journal and write what you are thankful for every day.

LESSON:  Having a thankful heart brings joy, happiness, and contentment.

YOUR TURN…

What is something in your life that leads you to contentment?
