I know some of you may be wondering, why a person would want to make your homemade apple cider vinegar. The easy answer is that it is both healthier and cheaper to make your own. That is a winning combination in my book. Plus, it is a great activity to include your children in and teach them about absolutely fascinating fermentation! How To Make Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar is a recipe and a tutorial all in one.
How To Make Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar
Makes 6-8 cups
Ingredients
Instructions
- Firstly, find a large jar and sterilize it in boiling water or the dishwasher. This jar should be big enough to hold 6 to 8 cups of liquid and apples.
- Fill the jar with 4 cups of warm water, add sugar, and the peels and core from four apples.
-
Stir it and cover it with a cheesecloth. Set the jar in a warm dark place for two weeks. Around 70 degrees is best. If you are fermenting in the colder months, Add a splash of premade apple cider vinegar to help prevent mold.
- Every time you cut and peel an apple, you can add it to the mixture!
-
Remove the apples after two weeks if there is a vinegary smell and allow the mixture to ferment for at least two more weeks, longer is fine.
-
When your vinegar is a bit cloudy and a mother has formed you can cover the jar with a solid lid and store it in your refrigerator.
