I love to make things and so do most of my children. They all express it differently of course. Some draw, some dance, some make jewelry, and some design computer programs. Today, I would like to share the Hydrangea Wreath my 13-year-old daughter Sarah made for our front porch. Simplicity at its best! It is Easy…took her about half an hour to make and looks amazing!
Here is a disclaimer about my creativity, I use what we have on hand and I don’t like to spend money, making things. I take real joy in thinking outside the box and creatively coming up with solutions using materials I have on hand in my home. All the supplies used in this project were from our home and garden. I think the grapevine wreath we use for the base has been at least 5 other wreaths at some time in its life.
How to Make an Easy Hydrangea Wreath
SUPPLIES
dried hydrangea (the best way to dry hydrangea is to pick a bouquet and put it in water, they maintain their color better this way)
scissors
glue (we used hot glue)
grape-vine wreath
paint (we used leftover wall paint from our kitchen)
paintbrushes
Step One…cut dried hydrangea stems to two inches in length.
Step Two…glue hydrangea to the grapevine wreath. We use a hot glue gun. It lasts forever and holds up on windy days.
Step Three: Gently paint the tips of any browning hydrangea. Use a boxwood green paint color. You will not paint all of the hydrangea petals, just the brown areas. Many people like the bit of browning for use in the Fall. It is completely your choice.
