How To Make Natural
Easter Egg Dye
Ingredients
Purple cabbage – blue and green
Turmeric – yellow
Onion skins – orangy and brown
Beets – red and pink
Coffee – Brown
Hard-boiled eggs
White vinegar
Materials
Large stew pot
Tongs
Small glass or stainless steel bowls
Instructions
- Select one plant to dye at a time. Place the selected color dye in the pot and add 1 quart of water. Bring the water to a boil.
- Add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the pot of boiling water. Bring the water mixture back to a boil, then lower the heat. Allow the ingredients to simmer for approximately 30 minutes. Strain the dye using a cheesecloth into a glass or stainless steel bowl. Let cool for at least 15 minutes.
- Gently place the hard-boiled eggs in a pot of strained dye. Depending on the color you want to achieve, vary the time the egg is left in the dye.
- Remove the eggs with tongs and let them dry on a rack or a paper egg carton.
