How To Make Your Home A Peaceful Haven…Making your home a Peaceful Haven is more than just home decor, although that is important. It is really about the heart and creating a safe place for people to interact with each other and display the everyday ways of the gospel life. I’ve learned a lot over the past 30 years as a wife, mother, and homemaker and this is the fruit of my life’s work.
Making your Home a Peaceful Haven is indeed possible!
Love God More
Have a personal, saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Practice forgiveness. Pray without ceasing. Live in peace with your family, friends, and neighbors. You will never be able to make your home a peaceful haven without a relationship with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Know Yourself
Intentionally understand the person God created you to be. No comparison, live a naturally healthy lifestyle. Practice self-care. Practice thankful, worshipful living to the only true God. Prioritize relationships.
Slow and Steady
Slow down, simplify and organize your home and life in order to serve God, love your family and obtain peace. Cut back on activities. Focus on relationships over, busyness. Progress over perfection. This is an important part of Christ-Centered Slow Living.
Five Senses Decor
Make your home a safe haven from an uncertain world. Address the five senses when approaching design and decor. Enrich everyone’s life when they enter your home by playing soothing music. Decorate using soft fabrics and embrace beauty. Make your home smell great by using all-natural essential oils in a diffuser. Make plenty of cozy spaces throughout your home to read, talk and snuggle with your children and husband. Display thought-provoking works of art in your home, decorate with scripture. Bake homemade food and eat together.
Healthy Nutritious Delicious
Practice the art of healthy home cooking. Understand and practice a life-giving approach to food and understand that food has the power to heal or harm. The family table is a powerful element in a peaceful haven.
Laugh
Life is often painful. Yes, take time to grieve and feel the pain but remember to laugh too. It will enrich your life and your family’s life in a way nothing else can. Play games, limit screen time, take walks, tell jokes, be goofy. Don’t take yourself too seriously and remember to laugh at yourself.
Live With Things That Are Alive
No more fake or plastic, replace with God created natural materials. Within moderation, thoughtfully place plants, fresh flowers, wood, natural fibers, and yes, even a pet or two in and around your home.
Create
Encourage yourself and your family to create in some way on a weekly basis. Build a computer program, pick flowers, and make a bouquet, draw a picture, hammer a nail, play in the sandbox, dress up, or play the piano. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new.
Hospitality
Invite family, friends, neighbors, homeless, orphans, and widows into your home on a regular basis. No pressure, everyone is different and is able to accomplish this at a different rate and in different ways. Give yourself grace and understand what season of life you are in but then put something on the calendar and open your home.
Beauty Comfort Calm
The wise words of William Morris say it all…” Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
