Have you checked out the price of almond milk lately?  Ouch!  It’s a good thing you can make homemade dairy-free milk. There is no need to mess around with all the complicated ways to make a glass of almond milk.  Here is How to Make Almond Milk the Easy Way!   In my area of the country, the cheapest place to purchase bulk nuts is at Costco.

It is simple enough to run to the grocery store and pick from several different brands of good-tasting almond milk.  The problem is, that it’s not just almonds and filtered water.  If you are allergic to carrageenan gum or guar gum then you are unable to drink store-bought almond milk.  Never fear though!  Homemade Almond Milk is EASY to make and the taste is superior to the nut milk you get from the store.

Almond milk is incredibly healthy.

  • Low in fat 2.5 g
  • Has 0 g. saturated fat
  • Only 8 g. carbohydrates
  • 1 g. of fiber per 8 oz.
  • 10%  for vitamin A
  •  25% for vitamin D
  • 50% for vitamin E

It will only take 10 minutes of active time to make Almond Milk the Easy Way.   You do need to soak the almonds for at least 12 hours before preparation.  I find it easiest to soak my almonds right before I head to bed so they will be ready in the morning to make fresh milk!

Almond Milk

Makes 1 quart

Ingredients

8 cups purified filtered water

1 cup organic raw almonds

1/4 tsp. sea salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. Soak the raw almonds and the salt in a glass bowl.  Pour 4 cups of filtered water over the almonds and let them soak overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the almonds.  Pour rinsed almonds and 4 cups pure water into a blender and blend until you have a smooth puree.
  3. Strain the nut puree into a glass pitcher through 2 layers of cheesecloth, a nut milk bag, or a 14″x14″ square of sterilized, sheer curtain.  Squeeze all the milk from the pulp.  Refrigerate.

What do you do with the nut pulp?

Spread the nut pulp evenly over a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake for 4 hours in a 250-degree oven.  When the pulp is dry, use it as a replacement for almond flour in recipes.

FYI: You can use this same process to make any nut milk!

Cashew milk is also especially delicious!

ENJOY!
