Let me start off with the facts. I need an odor-eating essential oil spray at my house. My house stinks!
Why?
I totally blame the 7 stinky people who live in my home as well as the one dog and 4 cats. It could also be that we have a backlog of dishes constantly in my sink! The reality is embarrassing to admit but it is the truth nonetheless.
So what to do?
I have taken it upon myself to experiment with making homemade odor-eating essential oil sprays that actually work to make my home smell better and at the same time deep clean. Toxic Febreeze is not an option for me. It has been a month-long project but I have found several options that are cost-effective and do the job well. My home has never smelled better!
Odor Eating Essential Oil Spray
RECIPE #1 Sunshine in a Bottle Spray
1/2 cup distilled water
20 drops Citrus Bliss essential oil or any combination of Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Bergamot, and Tangerine
RECIPE #2 Spicy Clean Spray
8-ounce glass spray bottle
1/2 cup distilled water
30 drops OnGuard essential oil
RECIPE #3 Floral Spray
8-ounce glass spray bottle
1/2 cup distilled water
15 drops each of Lavender and Lemon essential oils
RECIPE #4 Refreshing Spray
8-ounce glass spray bottle
1/2 cup distilled water
10 drops each of Lemon Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Wild Orange essential oils
Each one of these odor-eating essential oil sprays has been tested and retested at my home. I used many combinations but felt these did the job of reducing odor the best.

Do you spray it like Febreeze?
Yep…sure do Kristie 🙂
Hi! Is one of these better than the others for that wet dog smell? We got our carpets cleaned and it is still there! Ugh! 🙂
I would try sprinkling the carpet with baking soda and letting it sit for an hour and vacuum. Then use the refreshing spray. Hope this will help!
Keep up the good work! Thanks.
