I am always looking for ways to save money! One idea that consistently saves the most money is by reusing everything that I possibly can. In the garden, I like to save money in lots of different ways. One way is to reuse kitchen ingredients as fertilizer for my garden plants. 3 FREE Plant Fertilizers From Your Kitchen!
Just taking a moment to think of a creative way to reuse something that you were about to throw out can be a frugal habit that is well worth the time it takes to form and will end up saving you a bunch of moolah in all areas of your home!
3 PLANT FERTILIZERS FROM YOUR KITCHEN
- Tea Tea leaves from leftover teabags contain nitrogen which plants must have to produce beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetables. No need to compost the teabag remains, just sprinkle them around your plants. Have you ever grown Amaranth? It loves nitrogen!
- Cooking Water After you are done boiling potatoes, vegetables or even pasta save the water. Make sure to let it cool to room temperature and water your plants with it. The nutrients from the vegetables leach into the boiling water. Your plants will thank you for this added boost of nutrition!
- Egg Shells Load your plants up with needed calcium by crushing eggshells from your kitchen. Start saving them in a jar and after they are dried crush them in a food processor or by hand and sprinkle around your garden. Tomato plants especially love calcium.
