I am so glad to be able to share this post with each one of you!  I have been researching over the past several months for ideas to Save Money in the Bathroom that you may not have heard of before.   I must confess that I am a little disappointed when I read the same old ideas in every single blogger’s post.  I don’t know about you but I am looking for new options for my family.  I always want to be learning and growing in the area of financial responsibility.

25 Ways To Save Money In The Bathroom

1. Do not follow the directions on your shampoo bottle and skip the rinse and repeat the step.

2. Use coconut oil or olive oil to condition your hair

3. Crease your toilet paper roll in half…it will help prevent excess toilet paper use.

4. Clean the bathroom using natural and non-toxic ingredients like baking soda, lemon, and vinegar. Here are my non-toxic cleaning recipes.

5. Purchase your toilet paper in bulk from a warehouse store.

6. Install a low-flow showerhead to save money on water.

7. Use the same towel for a week.  If you clean your body effectively in the shower,  you will come out clean as a whistle and you will be drying a clean body.  Hang your towel in a place where it will not become musty.

8. Put a soda bottle filled with water in the tank of your toilet to save money with every flush.

9. Purchase liquid dish soap in bulk and then refill your soap pumps.  Dish soap is cheaper than the anti-bacterial soap that is marketed for bathroom use.

10.  To save money on toothbrushes, clean them monthly in the dishwasher.  It makes them last longer and kills the germs!  If you get your teeth cleaned every six months many dentists give you a free toothbrush and floss with every visit, ours does.  The cheapest place to purchase toothbrushes that I have found is at Aldi’s.

11. Shop the sales on shampoo and conditioner and use coupons to lower the price even more and stock up!  This principle will work on toilet paper, toothpaste, and cosmetics.

12. When you are brushing your teeth make sure to turn the water off while brushing.

13. Add a little water to shampoo bottles when they are getting low.  It will stretch the last of the shampoo.

14.  Shower every other day.  If you do not have a job that gets you really dirty then think about this option.  If you suffer from dry skin then this is a great choice for you.

15. When purchasing bar soap unwrap it so that it will dry out before using it.  It will make your soap last longer.  Also, don’t leave your bar soap in a place that water will hit it in the shower.  Another idea is to place the bar of soap on a sponge to save even more money.

16. Use cloth hand towels and replace them daily.

17.  Make your own soap and body products.

18.  Make your own toothpaste.

19. Use washcloths in place of toilet paper.  When done wiping place them in a diaper pail that has water with a bit of bleach in it.  Wash in the washing machine daily.  I know this sounds disgusting but if you are really desperate to save money I think this is a viable idea.

20.  One way to save money is to consciously use less of the products you use in your bathroom.  Test out what is the least amount of shampoo you can use in your hair and still get it clean.  The same goes for things like toilet paper and toothpaste.

21. Always consider store brands and especially store brands when they go on sale.

22. Learn to do things yourself.  Learn to dye your hair, pluck, and wax your own eyebrows and give yourself a pedicure.

23.  Use plastic grocery bags as garbage bags in your bathroom wastebasket.

24. Sew your own sanitary supplies.  Yes, you heard me right.  This will save you lots of money!  You can order pre-made pads online HERE.

25. Save money in your medicine cabinet by educating your self in natural medicine.  Check out the sales on the medicines you do use and stock up.  We really only use dye-free Advil in our house and use herbs and essential oils to treat the rest.   You can use a reputable mail-order pharmacy to save money on your daily prescriptions.

  1. I challenge you to stop dyeing your hair! 😉

And I make my own lotions and deodorants, as well as the toothpaste (and sanitary pads before I had a hysterectomy — not sure if I can get Faith to buy into that when the time comes).

I also make foaming hand soap with 3 parts water to 1 part liquid castile soap. I put a couple drops of rubbing alcohol in to keep it from growing any bacteria that’s in the water. Just put in refillable foaming pump bottles.
