When I pull up to the library I feel a smile spread over my face broad and strong. Libraries make me feel happy! When my generous husband pulls through the drive-through at the library and hands over his card, he states matter of factly, “These are for my wife”. I am so excited to share with you even more Simple Short Christian Book Reviews!
I average at least fifty books checked out of the local public library at a time, there is quite a stack next to my bed. Here’s the thing though, I absolutely LOVE reading. It brings me peace on a long hard day, allows me to travel and learn new things about cultures right from my comfy bed, and picks just the right dinner recipe.
Here are this month’s choices all reviewed from a Christian Worldview…
Simple Short Christian Book Reviews
COOKBOOK
The Oh She Glows Cookbook is currently my favorite “go-to” cookbook, enough said. Well, not really, this is a vegan cookbook. I tested most of the recipes and all were good, most were great, and some were excellent. I just hosted a wine and wellness get-together and made the recipes from The Oh She Glows Cookbook, I felt like a famous chef the way people were complimenting me. The most requested recipe…Life-affirming warm nacho dip!
FAITH
Discipleship: What It Truly Means to Be a Christian–Collected Insights from A. W. Tozer What does one say when reviewing a Tozer book? This is a classic for a good reason. It’s a must-read, the end.
Always Be Ready: A Primer on Defending the Christian Faith I was pleasantly surprised by this concise book by John Warwick Montgomery, author of sixty books. I learned a few things and greatly enjoyed my time thoughtfully reading. This book would be especially helpful for high school students. It’s not long at 105 pages and it holds your attention. Help for approaching the command to always be ready.
HOME DECOR
I will just state this upfront. I am a big fan of Ros Byam Shaw, a wonderfully descriptive home decor writer. This is for all farmhouse decor groupies, check out a truly British take on farmhouse style. Pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy Perfect English Farmhouse!
FICTION
Chasing Mona Lisa is written by one of my favorite authors Tricia Goyer who teams up with Mike Yorkey to write yet another fascinating and thrilling historical novel set in the tumultuous World War II. You will never guess how this one ends!
FAMILY
The Mission of Motherhood: Touching Your Child’s Heart For Eternity was the first Bible Study I ever taught. I found myself rereading this amazing book once again, to seep myself with the principles I so highly value as a parent. If you are a mother and have not yet read this book, stop what you are doing and purchase The Mission of Motherhood. You’re welcome.
HEALTH
My father died of Alzheimer’s Disease and I carry the gene for APOE4. I am passionate about getting the truth about Alzheimer’s Disease out there. I still hear intelligent Doctors say that there is just nothing we can do about Alzheimer’s. They are simply wrong. Check out 30 years of research from Dr. Dale E. Bredesen out of UCLA.
CHILDREN
What a faith-building book this is!
Oh my goodness, I laughed my way through this delightfully funny book! King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub is an excellent picture book that the whole family will enjoy. The illustrations are well done and entertaining too. I can’t believe I missed reading this one with my kids!
ARTS AND CRAFTS
Made To Last A Compendium of Artisans, Trades, and Projects is filled with projects to try and enjoy. Learn a new skill or five in this beautifully photographed book. Read about real-life artists and what and how they make their craft. Each featured artisan shares a tutorial. Hard to put down long enough to try the projects!
HOMEMAKING
Chasing Slow is an honest and beautiful story of one woman’s quest for slowing down, in the pursuit of, a meaningful life for herself and her family. Written in a sometimes heartwrenching style, the author chases after Slow in the midst of having a husband with a brain tumor, homeschooling her two young children, and seeking Jesus at every turn. Real and inspirational. This is not your everyday homemaking book.
GARDENING
Cottage Gardens: A Celebration of Britain’s Most Beautiful Cottage Gardens, with Advice on Making Your Own is a must-read for anyone interested in creating a garden. With a book about gardening, it can be hard to find one with more than pretty pictures. The ultimate sin is when the author does not list the plant names and varieties!?! No worries here, hours of beauty and inspiration await you!
