One of the most popular questions I get asked about living gluten-free is “What in the world am I going to eat”? I am so excited to share with you The Well-Stocked Gluten-Free Pantry!
Never fear you can still eat lots and lots of delicious food! Here is a list of things I keep in my pantry. I can make almost anything with these ingredients on hand. As you can see we don’t purchase many items pre-made. As a person with allergies, I have gotten sick from unidentified glutens in food…YUCK! I choose to make things like ketchup and barbecue sauce, plus a whole host of other staples myself. It is just not worth the risk of ruining my health.

Hi Janelle! Found your site on Pinterest. We went gluten-free a week ago last Monday when we got the call our 12 yr old has Celiac. I spent the first few days scouring blogs, purging our pantry and fridge, getting books (buying or through the library), and making lists. It’s a bit overwhelming at first, for sure! Thanks for your list! I was reading through it, and felt a lot more at peace about the things I’m getting. Thanks for your blog! (We homeschool too!)
Hi Courtney,
I am so glad you stopped by…I remember well the day we received “that call”! Please let me know if I can be of any help to you and your family. I am constantly updating The Peaceful Haven with our families gluten-free recipes. If you want a specific recipe just let me know and I will post it.
Thank you! Have you done any posts on quantities you buy, how you store it (types of containers/pantry/fridge/freezer), your favorite stores? I went from shopping at one store, to scoping out deals at four places now. And even considering online shopping.
More posts coming your way… In the meantime, I do most of my shopping at Costco. I can find most of what I use there and they have the best prices even better than amazon. I also use a local store called Marc’s and I go to Aldi’s as well. I store most of my grains in large plastic bins and everything else in glass jars. I freeze my flours and grains first, before I put them in my plastic storage bins. I hope this will help you as you start out!
Great blog! My family is gluten free due to allergies. My husband stops breathing due to wheat/gluten allergies, and my son swells up. However my son is also allergic to nuts – so we use oat flour and rice flour. I didn’t notice these on your list – but they’re also great substitutes.
Hi Kimberly, thanks for stopping by and commenting! I have only heard of one other person that stops breathing when they get wheat…this must be extremely scary! I also use oat flour and rice flour but I have a grain grinder so I grind everything fresh. That is probably why I omitted it:) I appreciate your suggestion and I know it will help others reading this post!
Hi Janelle!
Awesome blog. We have been gluten free now for under a week and it is just overwhelming. We got lots of book and information but it’s nice to have a basic overview what to have at home. All the different gluten free flours out there are quite confusing. My husband is American and we just moved to Germany so sometimes it’s hard to figure out the ingredients from English recipes. Keep up your lovely blog! 🙂
Thanks for your kind comment Christina…it takes time to adjust to the gluten-free life. Hope you will check out some of my recipes!
