I used to get so upset when I would hear ideology that is contrary to a Christian Worldview.  I am still affected by a sense of sadness at the population’s willingness to abandon the ancient teachings of our Father in Heaven.  However, I have now begun to laugh out loud at the pure silliness of the ideas being produced in this generation.  In the past, Satan would take the truth and alter it a little so as to be believable.  Today, let us discuss the myth of toxic masculinity.

As I was researching for this article I was surprised to find the term toxic masculinity on WebMD and other medical sites.  Apparently, it’s a diagnosis now!

Terry Kupers of the Wright Institute describes toxic masculinity as “The constellation of socially regressive male traits that serve to foster domination, the devaluation of women, homophobia and wanton violence”, involving “the need to aggressively compete and dominate others”.

Here is another definition, this time from Medical News Today, “Toxic masculinity is a term often used to describe the negative aspects of exaggerated masculine traits. The term has evolved over time and has a place both in academia and everyday speech”.

Men have been bashed and punished for being men since the 1960s.  We currently have an epidemic of feminized men who have been infantilized by women.  What we desperately need is an increase in masculine traits not a diminishment of them.  Our world is perilously in need of men, not boys.  We need more Biblical Manhood!  It is time to acknowledge that none of the culture’s views of masculinity are accurate.

The Myth Of Toxic Masculinity

The Myth Of Toxic Masculinity

  • Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.  Genesis 1:26-27

  • Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-6
  • How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! Psalm 119:9-16
  • Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. Proverbs 22:29
  • Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:22-25

  • When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 1 Corinthians 13:11
  • Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.  1 Corinthians 16:13-14
  • Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9
  • But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8

  • But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8

In closing, let me be clear, feminity and masculinity are good. Men and women are equally flawed and sinful.  This is why all people need a Savior.  There is only one Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Sin needs to be repented of and forgiveness given in equal measures for both men and women.  It is sinfulness that is the problem not femininity or masculinity.
