Were there really Three Wise Men?  Where their really three Gifts of Christmas?

Well, we don’t know!  We know there were three gifts of Christmas though, and because 3 gifts were given to Jesus, we assume that there were three Wise Men.  There could have been more or less.

A special activity to participate in with your family is to read the gospel accounts of Jesus’s birth and see what the Bible REALLY says about the Christmas Story. Pick out what we have inferred from the story that may or may not be true?  Your children will enjoy this fun activity!

The Three Gifts Of Christmas

GOLD

A precious metal of bright yellow color, and the most ductile and malleable of all the metals. It is the heaviest metal except for platinum; and being a very dense, fixed substance, and not liable to be injured by air, it is well fitted to be used as coin, or a representative of commodities in commerce. Its ductility and malleability render it the most suitable metal for gilding. It is often found in solid masses, as in Hungary and Peru; though generally in combination with silver, copper, or iron.  Gold has been used for money throughout history.

This is a great definition from Webster ‘s Dictionary – 1828 edition.  Some think that gold represents Christ’s kingship.  I just love God’s provision for his Son through this gift!

FRANKINCENSE

Perhaps the most precious of the ancient oils, Frankincense is highly sought after by modern consumers for its many uses including relaxation, immune support, and mood enhancement. Frankincense is said to be a symbol of Christ’s priestly role. Take a look at all the benefits of Frankincense!

.   Mood Balancer (diffuse or apply to neck to find harmony and clarity)

.   Anxiety (apply a few drops to cupped hands and breathe deeply)

.   Pain (apply and follow with heat to ease discomfort)

.   Bug Bites  (apply on itchy, scratchy skin to soothe irritations)

.   Home Sweet Home (diffuse in the home for a pleasant aroma)

.   Cuts (apply a few drops on cuts and scars)

.   Immune Support (take a few drops in a gelatin capsule)

.   Jaw Comfort (mix with Deep Blue Soothing Blend to provide relief)

.   Sleep (mix with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply to children’s feet at night)

.   Back Relief (apply neat on the lower back for soothing comfort)

.   Exhaustion (mix with Peppermint and apply to the bottom of feet)

.   Stress Relief (apply to temples for soothing comfort)

.   Cough (apply on neck and throat to soothe irritations in the throat or with coughs)

.   De-Stress (apply behind the ears and on wrists to erase frustrations)

.   Beautiful Skin (use neat or mix with lavender and apply to face morning and night)

I can see why God wanted the Holy Family to have Frankincense!

MYRRH

Historically, Myrrh has been used in many ways, from meditation to embalming in ancient Egypt. Modern herbalists frequently recommend it for its cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat. Myrrh is also excellent for calming the skin.  Myrrh is said to represent a prefiguring of Christ’s death and embalming.  Very Insightful!

Warm, woodsy, and earthy, Myrrh has a unique aroma that can transport you back to the ancient days with just one sniff. Myrrh was used historically as incense in religious rituals and to help heal those who had infections and diseases.

Traditional essential oil users reported using Myrrh for a variety of reasons, including help with asthma, candida, athlete’s foot, coughs, digestion, eczema, dyspepsia, gingivitis, fungal infection, gum infection, mouth ulcers, sore throats, wounds, skin conditions, wrinkles, increasing appetite, and more. No wonder it is such a precious oil!

Yet, once again we see God providing for his Son’s every need through these precious gifts!
