I have been wanting to write Thrifty Ways To Decorate With Blue and White Porcelain for a while now. Well, because you know how much I love the color combination of blue and white, and you know I have a collection of everything from transferware to chinoiserie that spans 20-plus years of collecting. I am also a black belt in bargain shopping at thrift stores and antique malls. It was time!
I want to give a wholehearted thank you to two of my all-time favorite home decorating Instagram accounts for allowing me to share their artistry with you! Thank you to Melody from Little Squares of Joy and Kelly from Southern Charm Cottage!
Today’s post will be a lookbook of sorts with tips sprinkled in…ENJOY!
Thrifty Ways To Decorate With Blue and White Porcelain
Artwork
The truth of the matter is that when you are looking to purchase blue and white china, make sure you examine a piece thoroughly and love the artwork. Many designs are handpainted and in the case of transferware beautiful imagery provides stunning artwork for very little money.
Style Bookcases
A very thrifty tip is to Incorporate porcelain pieces into your bookcase! An added benefit is that it also encourages reading. I find my children read more when the bookcase is arranged in an engaging way. The eye is naturally drawn to beauty!
History And Interest
Did you know that if something is referred to as vintage it is at least 20 years old? If something is an antique it is at least 100 years old. What’s more, incorporating something of historic value into your decorating scheme is a wonderful way to encourage an interest in family history. Yes, put out and use Grandma’s favorite china!
Display Collection
A large display of your collection provides a WOW element in your home! I have my main collection in two places on the shelves in my kitchen and my China cabinet in my dining room. I also, however, have a few pieces displayed in almost every room in my home including my bathroom. It is a recurring design component throughout my 1903 farmhouse.
Flat Top Display
Get creative and think of using the tops of dressers, coffee tables, and armoirs to display your lovely pieces of blue and white ironstone.
Set The Table
Setting the table is so much fun! Repurpose and mix and match the items you have. Don’t worry about having a complete set of china. When you use multiple blue and white pieces to set a table the result is utterly charming!
