You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks…Two years ago next month, I was diagnosed with my seventh auto-immune disease scleroderma and battling a major flare-up! To say my life changed would be an understatement. I basically had to drop everything I was doing, rest, and see the doctor every two weeks. No more ministry, no more babysitting my beloved boys, no more anything but the basics. I continued homeschooling and homemaking and I set about the process of healing!
It is funny that it is in those
very dark moments
that appear to be leading to death
that we often find new life.
It is true that any interaction we have with Jesus leads to life. It is His resurrection power that is daily at work in each one of us! Off with the old and on with the new. Even at age my age, God makes old things new.
Little did I know that God still had plans for me to make a difference in this world for Him. Just in a very different way than I imagined.
Exactly one year ago today I started The Peaceful Haven.
From my sickbed, I still wanted my life to count for something. I still had a strong desire to show my deep love for my savior. I longed to fulfill my duty to God by being a Titus 2 Woman. I wanted to fulfill my call to disciple women younger than me in their role as wife and mother. The question at the time was how to accomplish the goal. How could I do what God was calling me to do while lying sick in bed?
Enter…Blogging!
The thought had never entered my mind. But slowly as the months passed by, God directed and patiently waited. He was asking me to do a “new thing”.
I had plenty of objections.
For one, I am not a writer!
Secondly, I really do not understand or enjoy technology!
Thirdly, I am getting older, I am “the older woman” in Titus 2 after all. Blogging is for the young and hip!
But God would not let it drop, he was calling me to a new life filled with words like favicon and bounce rate. He promised He would help me, guide me, empower me, teach me, be patient with me and give me the courage to try something new at “my age”.
Blogging has become my new mission field. I can reach out to younger women and encourage them to wholeheartedly follow after Jesus. They can learn about all the wonderful ways of God in a safe and loving environment, all while they are working diligently at their individual callings at their individual homes. My blog is read by women in other countries, not just the United States and those women who may have never even thought about having a relationship with Jesus. They have stumbled their way to The Peaceful Haven and have started to learn about a relationship with Jesus Christ. God’s plans are being accomplished in the world!
My blog keeps growing every single month, I have met some absolutely wonderful women and I am thankful! My biggest following is on Pinterest then twitter, Instagram, and lastly on Facebook! Can you believe I have a Twitter account?
So, What have I learned this year?
For one thing, YOU CAN TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS!
I have continued to learn that obedience to God is always the best way to live and that He will never call you to do anything that is contrary to His Word.
God’s steadfast LOVE never changes!
Jesus Christ’s opinion is the only opinion that matters!
A simple and quiet life with God is actually the BEST life!
Health update: I am not in remission yet, but I am getting healthier every single month and my numbers are dropping! I, however, would not trade this journey. I am growing daily into the woman that God wants me to be and that journey is worth any hardship I encounter.
It is with a grateful heart that is overflowing that I want to say thank you to my Lord and Savior!
I also want to say thank you to each one of you who have read The Peaceful Haven, who have taken the time to comment or have contacted me by e-mail. You have blessed me in every way possible!
Blessings,

I’m so glad you’re starting to feel better. Chronic pain and feeling old is so difficult. We do need to lean on Him, because without Him, it’s not worth fighting.
Speaking of old dogs — haha! — I have a photo of Maggie that I have meant to email to you to share with Kylie. My son Geoffrey has taken up photography and he got such a great photo of her, and Kylie has been so interested. I’ll go find it now!
I agree Barbara! On the other matter, Kylie would love to see a picture of Maggie. It would make her day!
Boy this is so true, “It is funny that it is in those very dark moments that appear to be leading to death that we often find new life.”
And as far as writing, you are a writer!
Thank you for your kind comment Tyrsa!
